Bomadi councillors move to impeach LG boss

BOMADI—The legislative arm of Bomadi Local Government Area, Delta State, has served an impeachment notice on the council Chairman, Chief Oluwale Karetimi, over alleged financial impropriety and breach of provisions of the local government law. Thirteen out of 18 councillors who signed the resolution recommended to the state House of Assembly to empower them to act in order to sanitize the council’s administration. Mr. Mulade Yerindideke, who raised the motion of impeachment of the council chairman, Karetimi, which was unanimously adopted predicated the action on the grounds of diversion of N11.8 million inherited from his predecessor for agricultural projects, misappropriation of N51 million SURE-P fund credited to the council’s account. The statement alleged that the council chairman also diverted to his personal use the sum of $28,643 credited to the council’s account by LNG. The councillors described the chairman’s claim that he was monthly funding the Joint Military Tasked Force, JTF, with the sum of N3m as mischievous and criminal, stressing that from records, the chairman was only paying N950, 000 to the JTF. The legislators urged the state House of Assembly to act in accordance with the rules and apply it and not to provide safe haven to treasury looters, noting that all efforts made for the council boss to appear before the legislative arm to defend himself were all thwarted
