Investigate Statement Credited To James Manager, Begho Tasks NSA, DSS DG

Delta South Senatorial aspirant on the platform of All Progressives Congress, APC, Barr. Irone Rita Begho, has called on the Director-General, Department of State Services, DSS, Matthew Seiyefa and the National Security Adviser, NSA, Babagana Monguno to investigate the recent statement credited to the lawmaker representing Delta South Senatorial District at the National Assembly, Senator James Manager, wherein he reportedly vowed according to Saharareporters that he would rather die, than allow an Itsekiri person to succeed him as senator.

Barr. Begho in the swift petition addressed to the NSA and DSS DG, noted, “My immediate reaction to this was that the Distinguished Senator as a lawyer and long serving member of the highest law making organ in Nigeria, may not have said so but given the credibility of some of the media that reported it, I consider it imperative not to wave it aside”.

She argued that it is important for Senator James Manager to immediately and overtly refute the statement if he never said so, stressing that such clannish and un-statemanly comment is capable of causing disaffection amongst the constituents.

“By the end of his tenure in 2019, Senator James Manager would have spent 16 years in the Senate and this is unprecedented in Delta State and many other states of the federation. With or without any debate as to how he has performed, it is only fair for him to step aside, especially as there are persons of other ethnic nationalities and persons of different sexes in the Senatorial District. The average man of today would hardly live beyond 100 years and if 16 out of the 100 years, he has enjoyed the privileges of occupying such a position, then he must consider himself extremely lucky and part of the gratitude he can show to God and humanity is to step aside and not to ascribe to himself the role of God” She contended.

The Senatorial hopeful posited that for a state as volatile as Delta, such statements will always be counter-productive. “As a lawyer of over 32 years post call experience, I cannot allow comments like these to go unattended to, because of their potentiality for crisis especially as it affects elections. We need all the ethnic groups in the Senatorial District to take it to the Promised Land; inclusiveness is the way to go” She submitted.

Barr. Begho who has already commenced her consultations with the constituents of the Senatorial District, is a direct child of Late Chief E.NA. Begho, the then Iserigho of Warri Kingdom and a renowned nationalist leader.

She added, “as a people, Delta South Senatorial District is viewed as educationally advantaged, we should be seen as encouraging gender participation in governance by at least once in a while supporting women. There is no better time to ask for a woman Senator than after more than sixteen years of uninterrupted male domination in the Senatorial District. I am not presenting myself to you simply because I am a woman, but because the job at hand is one that requires good knowledge of lawmaking processes, solid educational exposure, vast national and International contacts and above all, the deep love and loyalty to the people, all of which I believe I have in abundance”.

AS the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) prepares for primary elections for candidates, Delta State Governor, Senator Dr Ifeanyi Okowa and his Gombe State counterpart, Dr Ibrahim Dankwambo have urged all aspirants to use the primaries as a means of strengthening the unity of the party.

The two Governors spoke  (29/08/18) in Asaba when Dr Dankwambo paid a consultative visit on members of the PDP and unveiled his presidential ambition on the platform of the party.

According to Governor Okowa, “I believe that the spirit we need in our party is for all aspirants to have strong interest in making our party stronger, there must be spirit of give and take.”

“In Delta State, we are very strong as a people and as a party, we are united and we will continue to stay united, God is our strength and the unity of our people is unshakable, we are right on course and we will continue to do the things that will unite us,” he stated, emphasising, “we will continue to stay strong, there is no shaking at all.”

 Governor Okowa who lauded the qualities of aspirants for different positions on the platform of the PDP, asserted, “we have listened to Dr Dankwambo, he has spoken as a gentleman, a man of peace who has ensured massive development in Gombe State.”

“He is a man of character; Deltans believe in democracy, we will not force the hands of the people on where to go but, I am confident that they will take the right decision,” the governor added.

Earlier, Governor Dankwambo had congratulated Governor Okowa’s administration for the massive development projects being executed in the state, disclosing that he was in Asaba to tell the people about his aspiration to be the President of the country on the platform of the PDP.

“I am a retired Accountant-General, and in the next few months, I will leave office as Governor after two terms, I am only 52 years; so, I have a lot to offer the country; I know Nigeria, I know the finances of Nigeria; I know how they formulate policies and I know how these policies are implemented and most importantly, I am still very strong and I am telling the people my desire and aspiration to be the President of Nigeria under the PDP,” he said, stating, “we should draw a criteria and assess all of us who are aspiring for the office, if you find me worthy, I am ready to serve, but, if you find somebody who is better than me, I will join the person to serve.”

He further reiterated in his speech that the youths and women are very  important in his agenda and promised to carry out empowerments programs and create a structure for the youths that will encourage nation building and a developed Delta South, He said he look forward to a Senatorial District that will have the biggest ICT base in Africa.

The immediate past Governor of Delta State. The toughest challenge for any leader in the Niger Delta since 1997 has been the issue of Peace and Security. For over 12 years, I was deeply involved in the management of the issues of the region, first as Secretary to State Government, SSG, and then as Governor of Delta State for 8 years. Strategically, we had ENGAGEMENT as our major tool. This involved government officials, with me in the forefront (sometimes personally going into the creeks without security at nocturnal hours), community leaders, traditional rulers, religious leaders, our youths, retired military officers, activists, etc. Of course, ensuring that Delta State Oil Producing Areas Development Commission, DESOPADEC, was active was also part of the engagement process. ENCOURAGING INTERESTS, ACTIVITIES Since the inception of the current All Progressives Congress, APC, administration at the federal level, there has been an encouraging interest and activities by President Muhammadu Buhari to bring a permanent solution to the Niger Delta crisis. This has pointed in a direction that is at once progressive and developmental. Topmost in these activities are the ENGAGEMENT PROCESSES. Rather than using the military to harass our people, the Buhari administration has embarked on various engagement processes that have led to agreements and brought hope to the people of the Niger Delta. In the last years, Mr. President has personally engaged several regional leaders and youths. Senior officials of his administration also engaged many Niger Delta leaders and youths. Very significant is that Mr. President mandated the Vice President, Prof Yemi Osinbajo (SAN), to visit virtually all the oil producing states, engaging various stakeholders. This is unprecedented in the history of the region. Such engagement processes have brought some measure of peace in the Niger Delta. Things can only get better. Beyond the engagement processes, however, the Buhari administration has embarked on some infrastructural and human capital development activities in the region. In Delta State, the opening of a Maritime University; the setting up of a steering committee for the EPZ (GAS CITY); the plan for a deep sea port; the dredging of the Escravos-Warri River; the opening of the railway line to Delta Steel Company(soon to be flagged off by Mr. President);the Omadino-Escravos Road that will pass through many riverine communities; the various road construction works by the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) and the various TCN projects across the State are some of the positive activities in the region. There are also various human capital development programmes especially the school feeding and the “social security net” that is making N5,000 available to the poor, the continuation of the YouWin programme, the various SME programmes and several other projects across the region have brought hope to the people. Indeed, once Mr. President was able to set his priorities pursuant to creating an environment for peace in the region, it became incumbent on every well-meaning Niger Deltan and Nigerian to assist the process of building an economically prosperous nation. In this era of partisan politics, it is necessary for the people of the Niger Delta, and Delta State in particular, to identify more with the Federal Government led by the APC. By so doing, we can push some of the agreements between our leaders and the Federal Government through, and also engage the government to do more. Politics is about interests. The Niger Delta is a major area of interest for me, because I staked my life going into the creeks severally without security and sometimes coming back at night negotiating peace. I will, therefore, give the strongest support to any President that shows commitment in the affairs of the Niger Delta. I call on, and enjoin, other well-meaning leaders in the region, who have very useful contributions to make, to come on board and join hands in helping this Federal Government to pursue a robust development agenda that would uplift our people. Whatever milestone that appears not to have been achieved yet is not for lack of efforts. Joining hands with and supporting the process will lead to a faster delivery on expectations. It is in the pursuit of this noble objective that I’m offering myself to help drive a process that would give the lives of our people in the Niger Delta more meaning. President Muhammadu Buhari needs people who will join hands with him to uplift our people. From my political experience, you have to be well represented and actively so at the “board room” when decisions are being taken. Delta State must be well represented. Niger Delta must be well represented. It is noteworthy to state that some organisations have been deeply involved in efforts to develop the Niger Delta and can always be relied on to collaborate with our President. It is also noteworthy to add that some previous administrations made significant efforts to develop the region. The current administration made such a significant impact in spite of the fact that apart from Edo State, President Buhari did not score the required 25% in the entire Niger Delta in the election that brought him into government in 2015. This speaks volumes of his genuineness to uplift the Niger Delta. Such an administration should be encouraged by the people of the Niger Delta. We can never be sure of the genuiness of another person who becomes the President. I have, therefore, after series of consultations and prayers, taken the decision to leave the PDP and join the APC. In doing this, I want to thank the numerous leaders, supporters and interest groups that have been urging me to remain in PDP. I am happy that after explaining some of the deeper issues to you, some of you that are politicians have agreed to join the APC in the near future. So I am going into APC as “John the Baptist” to the numerous Deltans that are coming in, soon – very soon. God bless you all.

Former Chief Whip of Warri South Council Legislative Arm and contender for Warri South Constituency 1 seat in Delta State House of Assembly in the forthcoming 2019 polls, Hon. Austin Oritsebemigho Tete, says since the creation of Warri South Constituency 1, nobody from the rural area have been given opportunity to represent the constituency, hence the need to correct the perceived wrong.

Hon. Tete who made the statement Saturday August 25 at his community, Egbokodo in Ubeji/Obodo Ward, Warri South Local Government Area while declaring his intention to vie for the Warri South Constituency 1 seat, asserted that it was time to change the narrative.

While assuring that he will make his constituents and youths in general proud if given the mandate, the former Chairman, House Committee on Health and Environment in Warri South Legislative Arm, canvassed for the support of party leaders and delegates ahead of the forthcoming Peoples Democratic Party, PDP primary.

Immediate past Secretary of Local Education Authority, Warri South Local Government and chieftain of PDP, Hon. Griftson Omatsuli assured Hon. Tete of his support and members of the heavily populated Ubeji/Obodo Ward.

Hon. Omatsuli opined, “It will be wizardry if I support other persons outside my ward”, adding that it is time for people of the rural area of Warri South to produce the next Warri South Constituency 1 legislator.

While the Chairman of Ubeji/Obodo Ward, Mr. Peter Ighomuenor assured the House of Assembly hopeful of their support, Our Correspondent Comr. Temisan Louis  reports that the Director-General of Hon. Austin Tete Campaign Organization, Mr. Roland Yomere, opined that it was time for the younger generation to takeover representation of Warri South.

He stressed that lot of rumors all over the media space stating Hon. Austin Tete Oritsebemigho has stepped down out of the race for fear of the Governor rumored having a special candidate for the seat. 

He noted that in the last stakeholders meeting of the PDP held in Asaba,  the Governor gave the charge to all aspirants to go test their popularity in the field and win their various primaries in their LGAs.

He further adviced all aspirants to focus on winning their elections instead of Sponsoring unnecessary rumors using the name of the Governor as their supporter.

Array Of Aspirants On PDP Platform Is A Good Omen -okowa ... As Kwakwanso Visits Delta State

DELTA State Governor, Senator Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa has described the array of aspirants for the presidential ticket of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for the 2019 general election as a good omen that will give strenght to the party.

Governor Okowa spoke  (21/08/18) in Asaba during a consultation visit by the former Governor of Kano State and one of the Presidential aspirants on the platform of the PDP, Senator Rabiu Kwakwanso.

According to Governor Okowa, "we are happy that so many of our Party members are coming out to contest for the presidential ticket of our party from the North, it gives strenght to the party, all that matters is for the party to manage the situation, I am one person that believes in free and fair election, I talk about it, I preach about it and I live with it."

"I believe that people should be allowed to freely decide who will be our presidential candidate in Abuja, we should ensure we provide a level play ground for all our aspirants, especially, in the presidential primaries," he said, emphasising, "if all aspirants for different positions are aware that there will be a level play ground, they will go all out to meet delegates and canvas for their votes, also, when the result comes out, everybody will accept it as free and fair, this is the right thing to do."

He asserted, "as Governor of Delta State, I will not be squeezing the hands of people to a direction, I believe in free and fair election and we shall promote such in our state."

While noting that Senator Kwakwanso was working hard to get the presidential ticket, Governor Okowa congratulated him for coming back to the PDP, disclosing that the doors of the party are open to receive people from other political parties.

Senator Kwakwanso disclosed that he was in Delta State to consult the people concerning his aspiration to contest for the presdidential election on the platform of the PDP.
"How do we save our country? How do we save our party, the PDP? because, as long as the party does the right thing, the Presidency will move to PDP in 2019," he stated.

Earlier, Chairman of PDP in Delta State, Barr. Kingsley Esiso had in a welcome address, stated that Delta State is home to the PDP and will remain so.
