DELTA STATE GOVT WON’T PAY FOR POORLY EXECUTED PROJECTS, SAYS AUGOYE

Govt Won’t Pay For Poorly Executed Projects, Says Augoye

BY DOMINIC OKONTA

AWARE of the impacts of poorly constructed road projects in the socio-economic development of the state, the Delta State Government has cautioned erring contractors against poor quality work, saying that it will not pay for projects that will not stand the test of the time.

The state government also stressed its readiness to introduce compulsory testing of soil samples and quality of asphalt materials before the execution of any projects in the state, once the state laboratory facility at Ughelli is ready for full operation, for longevity of infrastructures.

The state Commissioner for Works, Chief James Augoye who dropped the hint during the inspection of the on-going state projects across the state (at Ozoro/Oleh ongoing Road project), said that the state will not pay for any project executed without specification.

He noted that the series of roads failure recorded in some roads may have stemmed from poorly executed works, adding that the state government will no longer tolerate poorly constructed projects devoid of contract agreement.
While he cautioned and threatened to apply the sledge hammer on erring contractors, the state government, he said, will be compelled to relocate ongoing projects from any aggressive community which disrupts the progress of work to more peaceful ones, adding that government is not ready to apply to any community which does not want peace.

Chief Augoye while inspecting the ongoing rehabilitation of the old NPA 1.2km bye-pass dual carriage project in Warri, expressed satisfaction with the quality and pace of the concrete project, saying that it will stand the test of the time.

He equally inspected the ongoing rehabilitation of PTI Road, along Effurun Market, the ongoing 3.1km Ugbolokposo Road and the ongoing 7.9km rehabilitation/reconstruction of the Ekeprama/Ekrukpe/Useiefuru/Oruvworun Road/Drain project and commended the contractor in charge of the Ekeprama/Ekrukpe/Useiefuru/Oruvworun project for quality work.

Also,He inspected were the ongoing Otorere Olomu 1.1km Road project and the 8.87km Ozoro/Oleh Road project. He however commended the pace of work at the project sites, but urged the contractor handling the Otorere Olomu Road to commence stone base stage the moment wet soil (caused by rain fall recorded twice) dries up.

Who succeds omawumi Udoh? TIDI or Abigor

It’s no longer news that former Chief Whip of Delta State House of Assembly and member representing Warri South Constituency 1 in the House, Hon. Omawumi Udoh reportedly passed on at a London Hospital few weeks ago, but speculations are rife that while family, friends, political associates and colleagues may be mourning the departed lawmaker ahead of her imminent interment, underground lobby for her possible replacement in-line with the electoral act appears to have begun.
Ironically two names that have dominated social media space are persons from late Omawumi Udoh’s Okere Country home. They are Hon. Godwin Toritseju Abigor, who represented the Constituency after the April 2015 election before he was removed by an Appeal Court in Benin and Comrade Michael Tidi, a former Arch Rival of the late lawmaker, who until recently worked closely with her before the unfortunate death.
Hon. Godwin Abigor only recently returned to the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP from the Social Democratic Party, SDP where he contested for the same seat with late Hon. Udoh and Barr. Robinson Ariyo of the APC. But rumour mill suggests that Hon. Abigor is keenly interested to vie for the Warri South Constituency 1 seat in the imminent Bye-election and his alleged aspiration is speculated to have the backing of former Governor Emmanuel Uduaghan as well as rich political forces cutting across the PDP and APC.
Though his phone line was not reachable at the time of this report, there are speculations that he might use the All Progressives Congress, APC platform to run for the legislative seat should Governor Ifeanyi Okowa and other political forces decide to deny him PDP platform.
Political Adviser to Governor Okowa, Hon. Omimi Esquire when contacted on phone on the issue stated “I don’t want to talk on that, it’s mere propaganda, we are still mourning and people are capitalizing on my closeness to the governor to spread all kinds of rumour”. Hon. Omimi Esquire is among names being mentioned as backers of Hon. Abigor.
Comrade Michael Tidi who gave late Omawumi Udoh a run for her money in the 2011 poll before he became the lawmaker’s close Ally/Aide before her demise is believed to have the strong support of former Chairman of Warri North Local Government Area and current member representing Warri North Constituency in Delta State House of Assembly, Hon. Michael Diden A.K.A. Ejele.
It could not be ascertained as at press time if Hon. Michael Diden’s visit to the released former Delta State Governor, Chief James Ibori in London has any direct bearing on lobby to push for Michael Tidi’s rumoured aspiration, but Comrade Tidi have not yet decleared because he still grieving the loss of his  leader. I will talk to you after she’s interred, we are still mourning”.(Tidi said)
Some close political associates of Delta State Commissioner for Transport, Mr. Vincent Uduaghan who spoke to your soaring tabloid, brushed off rumours of the commissioner eyeing the seat even though he was an aspirant to the position in the 2015 polls.
The APC candidate for the position in the 2015 polls, Barr. Robinson Ariyo in a private telephone chat Monday December 26 told Our Correspondent that he was undecided if he will run for the legislative seat, saying God and political party leaders will decide.
Meanwhile, there are strong indications that while other names like Hon. Griftson Omatsuli are being mentioned in social circle, a major dark force that enjoys the trust of Governor Ifeanyi Okowa and The Olu of Warri, Ogiame Ikenwoli may emerge PDP candidate for the seat.
The force (name withheld) presently occupies on elected office and refused to be dragged into the conversation on whether or not he will vie for the Warri South Constituency 1 seat in the Bye-line election expected to be conducted between March and April 2017.
